Families, child care providers, and workers have been waiting a generation for a moment like this when Congress considers making truly historic investments in the areas of child care and paid family and medical leave. Altogether the proposals in this reconciliation package reimagine a society that will ensure an equitable and powerful recovery for all.
The federal government provides a majority of resources for programs that help low-income people, even when state and local government administers the programs. Smart investments and strong protections help low-income people get ahead. Cutting or repealing supports traps families in poverty. People of color, who are disproportionately low income, are particularly affected. CLASP advocates for a strong federal budget and for federal legislation and regulations that promote economic security and wellbeing for low-income children, youth, families. In particular, we advocate for policies that support work; provide access to health, nutrition, and other supports; and invest in education and training. We also tell the stories of those who are affected by federal budget cuts and caps—showing how policy truly affects low-income people.
